A11. A Beginners Guide to Capturing Motion

  1. In order to primarily control shutter speed, our Canon cameras need to be set to which mode? Canon cameras need to be set to in a faster shutter speed and with a sharper focus on the object.
  2. The article gives four reasons why motion techniques in photography may be used. What are they? 1. Blurred subject with background in focus 2. Blurred background with subject in focus 3. Freeze the entire field of vision or blur everything 4. Using the continuous shooting feature on your camera called chrono photography.
  3. The faster the shutter speed, the sharper the focus on the subject.
  4. The slower speed will _blur_ a moving object.
  5. Blurring the subject with a focused background is achieved by _using a slower shutter speed_.
  6. Having a blurred background with a focused subject is also called _planning_.
  7. What do you have to do to successfully pan? When you have a clear view of the moving object and ample room to swivel you camera.
  8. How would the image look if you pan in the OPPOSITE direction from the way the subject is moving? If you look at the image in the opposite direction your subject wouldn't be focused.
  9. Which of the three techniques (freeze/stop, blurred, and panning) requires the most practice? Planning required the most practice
  10. How fast should the shutter speed be to freeze the action? Shutter speed should be at least 1/1000th
  11. How would you blur everything? You blur everything by freezing the action
  12. Why would you want to blur everything? You want to blur everything to create the motion of the subject and capture a moving moment.
  13. What is the required equipment to do “chrono” photography IN ADDITION to the camera (and, of course, a subject in motion)? A tripod is required in addition the the camera.
  14. What are the three questions to ask yourself when shooting a moving subject? 1. How fast is your subject moving 2. How much distance exists between the camera and the subject 3. How much motion do you want your photograph to convey to the viewer.
  15. What two things should you check (and probably need to change) if your image is overexposed (too bright)? You must first check the aperture of the camera and try to adjust the larger the aperture the more light will come in. Next you need to review ISO setting to make sure the light is not over exposed.
  16. What is the best way to master the art of motion capture? The best way to master the art of motion capture is learn how shutter speed will impact you subject and over all image.
