A10 Aperture: Go to and Read

  1. What is the aperture? The exposure is a measure of how much light hits the sensor of your digital camera. The opening in a camera to bring to project light.
  2. What are the effects of controlling the aperture? When you adjust the size of aperture at the front of your camera it effects the shutter speed. Also the aperture controls the depth of field.
  3. What effect does a wide open aperture have on shutter speed? If the aperture is wide open the shutter speed is open for less time/ fast shutter speed.
  4. What effect does a small (closed down) have on shutter speed? A closed aperture effects shutter speed by slowing down the shutter speed and having more time to let light.
  5. What did you learn from adjusting the simulated camera knobs? I learned that the smaller the aperture you have the slower the aperture will be to let light in and the larger the opening the aperture is the faster the shutter speed will be.
HOW & WHEN TO USE APERTURE PRIORITY MODE

  1. What are the differences between full auto (the little green box on the Canons) and Program mode (the P on the Canon)? Full auto allows you to change only the image format and burst fire mode. Program mode can change the metering and whit balance.
  2. What does the aperture control? Aperture controls shutter speed which will result in the proper exposure of light
  3. Define Depth of Field in your own words. It is the distance between the nearest and furthest element in a photo. It is also the distance between the camera and the element.
  4. What are the three main reasons to use Aperture Priority? The three reasons to use the Aperture Priority are sharpness, depth of field, and light.
  5. Why is a “faster lens” (one with a wider aperture) important when you purchase a lens? A wider lens is important because it means shallow depth of field and faster speed in shutter speed.
  6. What is the advantage of using AV mode on a sunny day with good light? When the light is good on a sunny day you do not need to worry about the blur in images since the shutter speed is going to be fast enough to capture movement.
  7. What is the advantage of using AV mode for portraits? Shooting in AV mode for portraits help the photo become more sharp and defined to emphasize the person.
  8. What is the advantage of using AV mode for landscapes? AV is good for landscaped because it will have longer shutter speed and and wider depth of field.
  9. When should you use a shallow depth of field? You should use shallow depth of field when you open up the aperture in your camera which will allow more light in at a time.
  10. Why is AV mode not a good idea in poor light and/or a darkened room? You should not use AV mod in poor light because it will not let enough light in and make the image very blurry .
